Who holds power in my house?

My parent hold power in my life because if I choose to do something they don't think is right or they know it won't help me, they stop me from doing it and choose a better option, or help me make the right one. For example, I was going to take French as an elective for my freshmen year but they told me it wasn't worth it because I wasn't going to talk to as many people that speak french than other languages such as Spanish.
